The tunnels along the railway lines are works of engineering that transport us to other directions. On the old Vale do Vouga railway line, passengers were invited to experience these senses along the route from Foz do Rio Mau to Cedrim.

Railway tunnels

In the area of the old Foz station, we find the Ródão Tunnel; at the old Poço de S.Tiago station, there are two tunnels, Carvoeira and Vale Côvo; and near the old Paradela station, there are three more tunnels, Bouço Pedra, Zebadinho and Tapada Velha.

During the journey, when the train whistled through the tunnels, breathing was suspended for a few seconds or brief minutes. Then the light would come back on and serenity and contemplation would dominate new senses of the breathtaking landscape that would emerge to the rhythm of the train's movement. On the Vouga Ecotrailway it is still possible to pass through six tunnels.

Without the train, the same magic of discovery and tranquillity remains for those who travel this route with history, on foot or by bicycle.
